Affiliate Support

Not Every Affiliate Program Needs a Full-Service Agency

Sometimes you need the whole engine. Sometimes you just need the right part. Here's how to tell the difference.

The short version

  • Full-service affiliate management is the right fit for many brands, but not all of them.
  • Brands with an in-house manager, an early program, or a steady mature program often need focused help instead.
  • AC now offers Affiliate Consulting ($150/hour), Affiliate Recruitment ($1,000/month), and Account Maintenance ($2,000/month), all priced up front.
  • Many brands start with focused support and move to full management as the program grows.

When most brands think about outsourcing affiliate, they picture one thing: hand the whole program to an agency and let them run it.

For a lot of brands, that's exactly the right call. It's most of what we do at Asleson Communications.

But after over a decade in this industry, on the brand side, the network side, and the agency side, I've seen plenty of programs that didn't need the whole engine. They needed one part of it, done really well.

So we built options for that.

When Full Management Isn't the Right Fit

Full-service management makes sense when you need someone to own strategy and execution. But that isn't every brand's situation.

  • You have an in-house affiliate manager
  • Your program is brand new
  • Your program is steady and mature
  • Budget is tight this quarter
  • You need a second opinion
  • Recruitment has stalled

In each of these cases, a full retainer can mean paying for things you already have covered. What you actually need is targeted help on the piece that's holding the program back.

Affiliate Consulting

$150 / hour5-hour minimum

a.k.a. “The Second Opinion.” A straight answer from people who have seen a lot of programs.

Sometimes the problem is a question. Why did revenue dip after the network migration? Is our commission competitive for the partners we actually want? Are our coupon and loyalty partners bringing in new customers, or collecting commission on sales we'd get anyway?

The Second Opinion is a gut check from a team that has sat on the brand, network, and agency side of the table. It's built for in-house managers who want a sounding board, and for founders who want an honest read on their program before deciding what comes next.

Affiliate Recruitment

$1,000 / month3-month minimum

a.k.a. “The Partner Pipeline.” Up to 40 vetted prospects a month, worked all the way to an answer.

Recruitment is the part of affiliate that everyone agrees matters and nobody has time for. It's slow, it's repetitive, and it's usually the first thing to slip when an in-house manager gets busy.

We look across the whole ecosystem, from commerce publishers and creators to content sites and loyalty partners, and go after the ones who fit your brand, your margins, and your customer. Outreach is written in your voice, follow-up continues until there's an answer, and the full pipeline lives somewhere you can check anytime. You stay focused on activating the partners who say yes.

As we've written before, partner count is an activity metric. Forty partners who fit your brand will do more for your program than a few hundred who never post a link.

Account Maintenance

$2,000 / month3-month minimum

a.k.a. “Always On.” The day-to-day that keeps a good program good.

Affiliate programs drift when nobody is watching. Applications pile up. Partner questions sit unanswered. Network updates slip past. That multi-brand gift guide slot goes to a competitor because nobody raised a hand.

Always On means someone from our team is in your program every day: reviewing applications, answering partners, handling network communications, and pitching your brand into the multi-brand features and promos that drive real volume. You get a weekly pulse and a monthly performance recap, so you always know where things stand.

It's built for programs that are working and need to stay that way.

How to Choose

Here's the quick gut check. Stuck on a decision? Start with The Second Opinion. Partners aren't showing up? Start with The Partner Pipeline. Program working, but nobody has time to tend it? Start with Always On.

And if you need all three, plus someone proactively pitching your launches and seasonal moments, running publisher calls, and leading regular strategy sessions, that's what full Affiliate Management is for.

The best affiliate support is the kind that fits where your program actually is today.

Joey Asleson, Founder

Start Where You Are

Plenty of our favorite partnerships started small. A brand comes in for an audit or a few months of recruitment, sees what's possible, and the relationship grows from there.

There's no wrong place to start. The important thing is getting the right kind of help on the part of your program that needs it most.
